Biography

The Tropics' Claire George always loved music. When she moved to Los Angeles for college, she surrounded herself with music and arts majors, fostering a strong will to create music of her own. But it seemed that because Claire had no music degree to legitimize her interest in engaging music seriously, her social circle brushed her off. Intimidated by a lack of support, she allowed herself to remain silent.

Meanwhile at a prominent east coast party school: Eric Silverman, dejected and by no means acclimating to fraternity life, locked himself indoors and taught himself to play piano every night for the duration of his college carreer.

As with many young people who make the migration to San Francisco, Claire and Eric felt fully liberated from the constraints of their previous social lives. When they met and decided to form The Tropics, the two already shared an immediate, unspoken understanding - what they were setting out to create was the antidote to a stilted scene culture: a free, complete expression of who they were.

Coming off of an exciting and successful 2014 - in which they released their debut EP Wind House on Breakup Records to critical acclaim - the band recently played a sold out show at The Independent in San Francisco as part of Noise Pop 2015.

They are currently in Portland, Oregon at Jackpot Studios, working on a follow-up EP, which will be released later this year.
